The Current Situation of Fluoropolymer in China
- Jul 20, 2018 -

At present, China has become the largest producer and exporter of primary fluorine chemicals in the world. However, the lack of application and research and development and the backward technical level make it difficult for the domestic fluorine chemical industry to get rid of the surplus of low-end products. The fluorine chemical industry does not use oil and natural gas as the main raw material, and has little correlation with the oil price, but analysts believe that the global energy is increasingly tight. However, it provides a huge space for the development of fluorosilicon materials. Fluorine product is a new material of high performance chemical industry with complex production technology and higher overall price than that made from petroleum and natural gas. With the price of petroleum products rising, the price gap between the two is gradually narrowing, which provides a broad space for fluorine materials to expand their application market. The total global production capacity of fluorinated polymers is about 220000 tons per year. China production capacity is about 40,000 tons per year, accounting for 18 percent of the worldu total capacity, has become the world second largest producer of fluoropolymer. Ye Zhixiang, chairman of Zhejiang Juhua Group, believes that with the increase of economic strength and the improvement of people living standards, China demand for fluorine products will grow much higher than the global average of 2010-2020. Global demand for fluoropolymers will continue to grow at the same rate, with the average global demand for fluorine products growing at more than 3 percent. PTFE Powder.jpg

It is estimated that during the 11th Five-Year Plan period, Chinaundefineds fluoropolymer production capacity will maintain an annual growth rate of 15%, and the production capacity will reach 70,000 tons per year in 2010, with a total output of nearly 50,000 tons per year. Judging from the prospects of various fluorine products, fluorochlorane enters a period of decline. As a result, there will be a broad market for its substitutes; fluorine resin will enter the mature period, the competition of the main products will be intensified, fluorine rubber will enter the growth period, with the development of the automobile industry in our country, fluorine rubber will appear obvious growth; Fluorine coatings will increase with the growth of construction and chemical industry, and fluorine-containing fine chemicals have the most extensive development space. The gross profit rate of CFC substitutes and CFC products in China is maintained at the level of more than 20%. However, for fluorine rubber, PFEP and even fluorine fine chemicals, the market demand is strong and the competition is weak. It will still maintain a higher gross margin of more than 30% over the next three years. How can the "short legs" of the fluorine and chemical industry grow longer? What technical advantages does China have in the high-end fluorine chemical industry? Which products should be invested and developed in the future? A number of experts have conducted in-depth analysis in the four major areas of fluorinated polymer ODS substitutes, inorganic fluorides and fluorine-containing fine chemicals. Fluorine chemical industry is a new high-tech industry encouraged by all countries to develop. Fluorinated polymer is also the high-end field of fluorine chemical industry. Today, the cheapest PTFE is around 30,000 yuan a tonne, and the most expensive fluorinated polymer is tens of millions of yuan per tonne. How to make this potential of the high-end industry radiate its due luster? Aiming at the industrial foundation of domestic fluorine chemical industry, the experts put forward the technical direction to tackle the key problems.
