Current Situation Of Fluorite Resources In China And Countermeasures For Sustainable Development
- Nov 13, 2018 -

Fluorite, also called fluorite, is the crystal of CaF2. The natural fluorite often shows bright color, pure fluorite is colorless, and the common colors are light green to dark green, blue, yellow, purple, gray, brown and so on. Fluorite is widely used in metallurgy, building materials and chemical industry. It is the main source of fluorine in industry, and it is also an important raw material in the field of new materials. In order to ensure national economic security, national defense security and the development needs of strategic emerging industries, the Ministry of Land and Resources, together with the NDRC, the Ministry of Industry and Information, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Environmental Protection, In the National Mineral Resources Program (2016-2020) jointly organized by the Ministry of Commerce, fluorite is included in the strategic mineral catalogue as the key object of macro-control and management of mineral resources.

Fluorite resources are unevenly distributed around the world. According to data released by the United States Geological Survey (USGS) < Mineral Commodity Summaries2017 >, the world has 260 million tons of reserves, with South Africa, Mexico, China, Mongolia and other countries having the most abundant resources. Its reserves account for about 51.9 percent of the world total.

                1) United States Geological Survey statistics. In 2009, the US Geological Survey announced that the reserves base of fluorite deposits in China at the end of 2008 (the meaning of Reserve base- is not exactly the same as that of Chinaundefineds national standard, and the scope is larger, including part of the amount of resources of Chinaundefineds national standard) is 110 million t. Chinaundefineds fluorite reserves surged to 40 million tons in 2016, according to a (Reserves) of 24 million t in 2017.

              2) Statistical data of government departments and trade organizations in China. According to the statistics of the Ministry of Land and Resources and the China Mining Federation, by the end of 2010, the total amount of fluorite ascertained resources (CaF2) in China was 180.378 million tons, of which, after detailed investigation, the basic reserves (CaF2) of exploration were 40.559 million tons. Reserves (recoverable portion of base reserves, CaF2) are 23.896 million t. Data from the Ministry of Land and Resources showed that by the end of 2016, the countryundefineds average fluorite reserves had been converted to 222 million tons of calcium fluoride, up 0.4 from a year earlier. No data on basic and recoverable reserves had been released. The total amount of resources (CaF2) was 42.2 million t higher than the 2010 figure.

This is related to the high price of fluorite products in 2010 and 2011, the increased investment of the National Exploration Fund and social funds in the exploration of fluorite resources, most of which are still at the census stage in terms of the degree of exploration. Even some of the identified resources have not yet established mining rights, so the proportion of recoverable reserves as a percentage of total identified resources is lower than in 2010. According to the industry investigation and data, it is found that the total resource (CaF2) is 222 million t, the base reserve (CaF2) is 47.7 million t, and the reserve (recoverable part of the base reserve, CaF2) is 27 million t.
